Non-Violent Activism

The FHRC actively works with Civil Society leaders within Cuba to empower them with information that improves their understanding to the “science” behind strategic non-violent activism which creates a “force more powerful.”

Numerous training and educational materials have been translated into Spanish and adapted for Cuba’s perspective.  These efforts transmit the message of a tangible hope that will empower the Civil Society into taking action and demanding positive change.

Below are useful links of organizations with a wealth of knowledge on the non-violent activism subject.  We encourage you to visit these sites and read about the amazing possibilities available to all societies that wish to defend human rights and provide an opportunity for the current following generation.

Some notable examples we are all familiar with are those of the Civil Rights activists in the United States and the example of Martin Luther King Jr., movements led by Mahatma Gandhi and Optor!’s (a non-violent civic youth movement) success dethroning Slobodan Milošević in Serbia as recent as 2000.  To these notable successes we are summing the nascent movements of the Damas de Blanco marching non-violently to demand the liberation of their imprisoned husbands while receiving the grotesque “acts of repudiation”, defiant prisoners of conscience not yielding to the regime’s physical and psychological abuses pushing them to leave the country, and those of cultural activists holding “underground” concerts and festivals independent of the regime’s control and drawing crowds in the thousands.
